In general, you must use the set of administrative tools that corresponds to the server version that you want to manage. The only exception is that you use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in to move users from Live Communications Server to Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
Use the Live Communications Server 2005 snap-in as follows:
- To manage Live Communications Server 2005 users and servers.
- To access the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in on
Live Communications Server 2005 or on a computer with the Live
Communications Server 2005 snap-in installed.
Use the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in as follows:
- To move Live Communications Server users to Office
Communications Server 2007 R2.
- To manage users on Office Communications Server 2007 R2 after
moving them from Live Communications Server.
- To manage Office Communications Server 2007 R2 servers and
services.
You cannot install the Live Communications Server 2005 snap-in and the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in on the same computer. The Office Communications Server 2007 R2 administrative tools are not installed automatically on each server. You must manually choose on which workstation or server you want to install the tools. Additionally, if you want to leverage Active Directory features to assist in managing users, you must install the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 snap-in on the server or workstation that you plan to use to perform those tasks.
