Office Communications Server 2007 R2 requires 64-bit server software and hardware. In addition, requirements for CPU cores and RAM are different from the minimum requirements for Office Communications Server 2007. The following are the operating system and server software requirements for Office Communications Server 2007 R2:

Server Role Collocation

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 supports placing more than one server role on each server. Understanding which components can be collocated will help you plan your hardware needs. For details, see Supported Server Role Collocationin the Supported Topologies and Infrastructure Requirements documentation.

Load Balancers

Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Office Communications Server 2007 cannot coexist in a single pool or Edge Server array. You can, however, connect an Office Communications Server 2007 pool and an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool to the same load balancer. For example, if you have an array of Office Communications Server 2007 Directors attached to a load balancer, you can also simultaneously attach an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Director array to the same load balancer.

The use of a software load balancer, such as Windows Server Network Load Balancing, is not supported.
