During this step, you activate Monitoring Server and publish information about the service in Active Directory.

Note:
To activate Monitoring Server, you must be logged on to the server as a member of the DomainAdmins group or of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

To activate Monitoring Server

  1. In the Deployment Wizard, at Step 2: Activate Monitoring Server, click Run.

  2. On the Welcome to the Monitoring Server Activation Wizardpage, click Next.

  3. On the Service Accountpage, type the name of a new or existing service account to use for this server, type the password for the account, and then click Next.

    Note:
    The default account is RTCComponentService. If you create a new account, ensure that you use a strong password that meets the Active Directory password requirements of your organization.
  4. On the Select SQL Server Instancepage, in the SQL Server instancebox, do one of the following and then click Next:

    • To use the default instance (that is, MSSQLSERVER), type the name of the server in the box.

    • To specify a different instance, type the name of the instance in the format <servername>\<instance>. For example, sqlserver\dbInstance.

  5. On the Reuse Existing Databasepage, do one of the following:

    • If you want to overwrite an existing Monitoring Server database with a new database, select the Replace any existing databasecheck box.

    • If you want to keep the default setting (that is, to reuse the database), clear the check box.

    Note:
    To check if you have an existing database, check if your SQL Server instance contains a database with the name of QoEMetricsor LcsCDR.
  6. Click Next.

  7. On the Location for Database Filespage, type the location for the Quality of Experience (QoE) and Call Detail Recording (CDR) database files and the location of the database transaction logs, and then click Next.

    Note:
    If your Monitoring Server database is located on another computer, the Browsebutton is unavailable.
  8. On the Ready to Activatepage, click Next.

  9. When the wizard has completed, select the View the log file when you click Finishcheck box, and then click Finish.

  10. In the log file, verify that <Success> appears under the Execution Resultcolumn, verify that <Success> Execution Result appears at the end of each task, and then close the log window.

    Note:
    If the Windows Server firewall on this server is turned on when you activate Monitoring Server, the deployment tool will add the Monitoring Server services (that is, QoE and CDR) to the firewall exception list so that they can operate correctly. If Windows Server firewall is currently turned off, you will see warnings in the log file that you will need to manually add these exceptions if you enable the Windows Server firewall at a later date.
