You can use the Archiving Configuration tab to do the following tasks globally or for a site:
- Turn archiving on or off.
- Define the communications, such as instant messaging (IM) or IM
and Web conferencing, that will be archived.
- Define the purging settings for archived content.

In order to configure and use archiving, you must first install the Archiving Server and connect it to the backend Archiving store. |
To configure archiving

Open Communications Server Control Panel.

Click Monitoring and Archiving, and then click Archiving Configuration.

Select the appropriate site from the table, click Edit, click Modify, and then do the following:
- To disable archiving for the site, in Archive setting,
select Disable archiving.
- To set the type of communications that will be archived, in
Archive setting, select either Archive IM or
Archive IM and Web Conferencing.
- To set how archiving behaves during a failure, select the
Block instant messaging (IM) or web conferencing communications
if archiving fails check box.
- To disable archiving for the site, in Archive setting,
select Disable archiving.

Click Commit.
To enable purging for archiving

Open Communications Server Control Panel.

Click Monitoring and Archiving, and then click Archiving Configuration.

Select the appropriate site from the table, click Edit, click Modify, and then do the following:
- To enable purging, select the Enable purging for all
Archiving Servers.
- To purge all records, click the Purge exported records and
records after maximum duration (days) check box, and then from
Purge exported records and records after maximum duration
(days), select the maximum number of days to keep records
before they are purged.
- To purge only exported records, select the Purge exported
records only check box.
- To enable purging, select the Enable purging for all
Archiving Servers.

Click Commit.
