The topics in this section describe how an application can create and use a two-party conversation.
A majority of conversations occur between two participants. In order to optimize such conversations so that they conserve server resources, these conversations are (by default) carried out with media travelling peer-to-peer along the best available path, while the signaling continues to be proxied by the Office Communications Server computer.
Two-party conversations can be escalated to a full conference when the application decides to add more participants. For more information, see Multiparty Conversation.
