This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot an issue in which you cannot synchronize your mobile device with an Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Mailbox server.

When you try to synchronize a mobile device with this Mailbox server, you receive the following error message:

Your account in Microsoft Exchange server does not have permissions to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator.

This issue occurs if a policy that is being applied to the mobile device includes options that do not work with the device. Exchange 2007 SP1 includes a new version of the airsync protocol. Each new version of the airsync protocol includes options that can be used with new mobile devices, but the protocol may be incompatible with older mobile devices. To resolve this issue, set Non-Provisionable Device Allowed to True in the default ActiveSync Mailbox policy. Also, verify that the options under Require Password are configured correctly.

To set Non-Provisionable Device Allowed to True in the Default policy
  1. In Exchange Management Console, click Client Access under the Organization Configuration node.

  2. In Client Access on the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies tab, right-click Default, and then click Properties.

  3. On the General tab, click to select the Allow non-provisionable devices check box, and then click OK.

To verify the options under Require Password
  1. In Exchange Management Console, click Client Access under the Organization Configuration node.

  2. In Client Access on the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies tab, right-click Default, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Password tab, click to select the Require password check box.

  4. Click to clear the Enable password recovery check box.

  5. Click to clear the Require encryption on the device check box.

  6. Click to clear the Require password check box, and then click OK.
