Identify Duplicate Accounts

There are three ways to identify duplicate accounts in Active Directory. Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard searches for all duplicate accounts. You can manually enter the duplicate accounts that you want to merge. You can also create a file that contains a list of accounts to be merged, and then import that list into the wizard.

Note   Because it can take a considerable amount of time to identify, review, and merge duplicate accounts in Active Directory, you may want to use a two-step process. The first step is to use the wizard to identify duplicate accounts and then export that list to a .csv file. Then, at a later time, you can import that list of merge operations for further review and run the merge process.
