Create a List of Accounts

You can manually create a list of merge operations for Active Directory Account Cleanup Wizard to perform. You can create a list of merge operations in Notepad or any other application that uses the .csv format.

Note You need to create a list of merge operations manually only if you have a particular reason to do so; for example, you might want to create a list of merge operations manually if you already have a list of accounts to be merged in the correct .csv format for the wizard.

To create a list of accounts to be merged in Notepad:

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. In a blank Notepad document, type Source,Target on the first line.
  3. On the following lines, type the source and target accounts for the merge operations you want to add:

<Source account location and name>,<Target account location and name

The following is an example of what a .csv file of a merge operation looks like in Notepad. The merge operation involves a disabled account for Martha Dale and an enabled account for Martha L. Dale:

    Source,Target

    server1.east.contoso.com/Users/Martha Dale, server1.east.contoso.com/Users/Martha L. Dale

Note A list of accounts exported from the wizard includes source and target account locations, in addition to the following attributes: display name, alias, e-mail address, title, department, and telephone.

These additional attributes are not needed in an import file and are used to help you review an exported list of accounts outside of the wizard.
