Use the Storage Quotas dialog box to configure a variety of storage quota restrictions and deleted item retention settings for the mailbox user.

| By default, all mailboxes in a mailbox database use the storage quota and deleted item retention settings that are configured for that mailbox database. This dialog box allows you to configure mailbox-specific settings. Mailbox-specific settings override the settings that are configured for the mailbox database. |
- Storage quotas

- Select the Use mailbox database defaults check box to
use the storage quotas that are configured for the mailbox database
that contains this mailbox. Clear this check box to create storage
quotas that are specific to this mailbox user.
- The following check boxes are available only when the Use
mailbox database defaults check box is cleared:
- Issue warning at (KB) Select this check
box and use the corresponding text box to specify the maximum
storage limit in kilobytes (KB) before a warning is issued to the
mailbox user. The value range is from 0 through
2,147,483,647 KB. If the mailbox size reaches or exceeds the
value specified, Exchange will send a warning message to
the mailbox user.
- Prohibit send at (KB) Select this check
box and use the corresponding text box to specify a prohibit send
limit in KB for the mailbox. The value range is from 0 through
2,147,483,647 KB. If the mailbox size reaches or exceeds the
specified limit, Exchange will prevent the mailbox user from
sending new messages and will display a descriptive error
message.
- Prohibit send and receive at
(KB) Select this check box and use the
corresponding text box to specify a prohibit send and receive limit
in KB for the mailbox. The value range is from 0 through
2,147,483,647 KB. If the mailbox size reaches or exceeds the
specified limit, Exchange will prevent the mailbox user from
sending new messages and will not deliver any new messages to the
mailbox. Any messages that are sent to the mailbox will be returned
to the sender with a descriptive error message.
Note:Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 allows administrators to customize the warning and error messages for mailboxes that exceed the specified storage quotas. To learn more about customizing quota messages, see How to Manage Quota Messages. - Issue warning at (KB) Select this check

use the deleted item retention settings that are configured for the
mailbox database that contains this mailbox. Clear this check box
to create deleted item retention settings that are specific to this
mailbox user.
- The following check boxes are available only when the Use
mailbox database defaults check box is cleared:
- Keep deleted items for (days) Use this
box to specify the number of days that Exchange will retain
the deleted items for this mailbox. During this retention period,
users can recover their deleted items on their own. If an item that
was deleted beyond the interval needs to be recovered, the
administrator must restore the mailbox database from backup.
- Do not permanently delete items until you back up the
database Select this check box to prevent
Exchange from permanently deleting the items until the mailbox
database is backed up. This ensures that the deleted items can be
recovered from backup if necessary.
- Keep deleted items for (days) Use this
box to specify the number of days that Exchange will retain
the deleted items for this mailbox. During this retention period,
users can recover their deleted items on their own. If an item that
was deleted beyond the interval needs to be recovered, the
administrator must restore the mailbox database from backup.
