By default, users can post and download files in the messages they post. You can disable this functionality and prevent users from posting and downloading files in two ways:
- Preventing all users from posting and downloading files in a
certain category or chat room.
- Preventing a certain user from posting and downloading files in
any chat room. The user cannot post and download files in any chat
room, including chat rooms that allow file posting and
downloading.

To prevent all users from posting and downloading files in a certain category or chat room

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat Admin Tool.

In the Chat Rooms list, click the category or chat room.

In File uploads, select No.

Click Apply.
Note: If you are editing a category, this change immediately applies to any subcategories and chat rooms in it that inherit the File uploads setting from this category.
To prevent a certain user from posting and downloading files in any chat room

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Lync Server 2010, and then click Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Group Chat Admin Tool.

On the File menu, click Manage Users.

Under Find Users and User Groups, in the Search For box, type the name or part of the name of the user, and then click Search.

In the list of names that match your query, click the name that you want, and then click Manage.

In the Manage User dialog box, click Permissions.

Note the settings on the page because you may need to reset them later, and then clear the Inherit check box.

Clear the Can upload files check box.

If the Is User Admin or Is Channel Admin check boxes were selected before you cleared the Inherit check box, select them again.

Click OK.
